FISTULA PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Bomu partnered with the Fistula Foundation in June 2015 to provide free fistula repair surgeries at Bomu Hospital. The program started in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties and thereafter in 2019 expanded to Taita Taveta, Tana River, and Lamu Counties.

The program is divided into two parts; The community program and the treatment program. Under the community program, Bomu supports awareness creation, training, and case identification at the community level and post-operative follow-up and rehabilitation for patients. The treatment program on the other hand includes free surgical repairs of fistulas and perineal tears for women every month at the Bomu Hospital in Changamwe.

Bomu has successfully treated over 700 women in this program and supported over 100 women with rehabilitation programs so far. Bomu continues to implement this program across the six counties in the coastal region with highly qualified staff at the facility and well-trained community health workers at the community level.
